A fresh coat of paint and a better lens table
The Interactive L-Mount Lens Table has grown to over 160 lenses since I introduced it last year. With that growth, some rough edges that were tolerable at 60 lenses became annoying at 160. So I spent some time on quality-of-life improvements for the table, and for the site as a whole.
A look borrowed from the lenses themselves
The site has an updated visual theme. Light mode is based on the photographer’s neutral gray card. Dark mode is the matte black of an anodized lens barrel, with off-white text like engraved markings. The accent colors come from lens engravings too: the orange of a depth-of-field scale, and the little red index dot you line up when mounting a lens, which now marks the section you’re on in the navigation. And the horizontal dividers are tiny focus scales, ticks and all.
Headings and navigation are set in a DIN-derived typeface, the same lettering style that is engraved on many lens barrels.
Lens table quality-of-life
The bigger changes are in the table itself:
- The header row sticks. With 160+ rows and 15 columns, scrolling used to mean losing the column labels almost immediately, leaving you guessing whether that “0.15” was a close-focus distance or a magnification. The header now stays pinned while you scroll.
- Click a column to sort. Every column header is now a sort button — works just as you’d expect.
- Full lens names. The name column truncates much less aggressively, and hovering still shows the full name along with a photo of the lens.
- A tidier page. The “Latest updates” list is collapsed by default, so the filters and table fit on screen right away.
- Dark mode fixes. The table header and comparison buttons are properly readable in dark mode now.
None of this changes what the table is — a fast, no-nonsense list of every native full-frame L-Mount lens. It just gets out of your way a little better now.
