Description and Reviews

Key Take-Aways:

The Viltrox EPIC 75mm T2.0 Anamorphic is a manual-focus full-frame anamorphic cine prime, the longest lens of the EPIC 35, 50 and 75mm set, sold in E, L, PL and RF mounts. In L-Mount Viltrox lists it at about 2,050 g without lens covers, 165 mm long and 102 mm across, with 18 elements in 13 groups, a T2.0 to T22 aperture range, 8 aperture blades and a 39 degree diagonal field angle, and it costs $3,199 in Viltrox’s US store. As of Oct 2026, few reviews have been written; two reviews and five videos are linked. CineD’s Johnnie Behiri, pairing the set with a Panasonic LUMIX S5 II, finds the build very solid, focus breathing barely noticeable, the bokeh soft and natural and the blue flare streaks nicely distributed, and wishes the minimum focus distances were better. Fstoppers’ Pete Coco, using the lens on a Sony a7R V, finds the image quality, tank-like build, bokeh and flare excellent and the weight the only dislike, and quotes Danh Nguyen calling it razor-sharp at T2.0 with a soft cinematic background, while Will Meade found the focal length and minimum focus distance a bit far. Alexandru Don, testing the set on an Arri Alexa LF and a Sony FX6, finds the lenses feel super solid and quite heavy, likes that the 95 mm front takes a matte box without adapters, finds the image so sharp yet so cinematic with really good-looking bokeh, says they are a perfect match for his work and that he personally likes them a lot, and thinks they looked much better by day than at night. Arthur R calls it the most challenging lens he has used but also one of the greatest, with sharp centre and corners, clinical sharpness from T2.8, subtle flare, smooth bokeh and nothing to report on focus breathing, while finding the weight, the long heavy focus throw and the white finish a drawback for professional sets. Jason Morris finds all three lenses sharp in the centre and fairly sharp in the corners wide open, with practically no focus breathing and oval bokeh even with this modest squeeze, and calls them phenomenal but aimed at mid-range and high-end filmmakers, at the $2,800 he quotes. Mathieu Stern finds it extremely heavy and painful to use handheld, finds the flare typical but not all over the image and the bokeh nice and buttery at T2, and calls it a professional tool he cannot recommend for everyday content. Pete Coco Photography, on a Sony E-mount camera, finds it heavy and hard to use handheld, built like a tank, cinematic, with a flare that runs as a line across the frame and a natural, three-dimensional look in portraits.

From Viltrox:

T2.0 Ultra-Large Constant Aperture

1.33X Constant Squeeze Ratio: Ensures consistent image distortion from far to near.

Beautiful bokeh and oval light spots are vividly rendered.

Front end compatible with 95mm matte box.

Color Saturation: Retro pure color restoration.

Consistent Optical Performance: Uniform character and gear position design.

EPIC series features impressive image expression, retro pure color reproduction, 1.33x constant squeeze ratio, constant aperture, consistent optical performance, and “zero” breathing effect.

It truly combines the optical quality of a spherical lens with the artistic characteristics of an anamorphic lens. It is widely practical and unique, making it a new choice among anamorphic lenses.

Whether it’s close dialogue, mid-range tracking, or long-lens tension, every lens in the set is tuned for coherent cinematic language.

Delicate and soft image performance presents retro charm in color, with pleasant skin tone expression, showcasing a texture that is distinctly different from that of normal lenses.

T2.0 constant aperture design, beautiful bokeh and oval light spots are vividly presented; the inner and outer focus are as smooth and natural as cream, achieving impressive expressions.

Viltrox Epic series lenses feature excellent optical design, covering full-frame sensor cinema cameras. Can obtain vivid and delicate image performance from the center to the edge of the frame.

With a 1.33X constant squeeze factor and refined optical design, this lens ensures a consistent image distortion ratio from near to far. The blue brushed effect is presented in an appropriate form.

EPIC series lenses effectively reduce the angle of view change when focusing, and the breathing effect is barely noticeable when the focus is adjusted.

Sharing same character, gear position design and center of gravity, unnecessary to adjust the lens repeatedly.

Special protective case for Epic series lenses, strong and resistant to pressure. It is easy to carry when going out to shoot, and can better protect the lens.

Specifications are from the spec table on Viltrox’s page for the EPIC 25 to 135mm set, which has one column per focal length; the 75mm column is used. Viltrox publishes L-Mount figures for this lens: weight of about 2,050 g excluding the front and rear lens covers, and a length of 165 mm. The diameter is Viltrox’s Ο†102 mm lens diameter, the only diameter Viltrox publishes for the body; Viltrox also lists a 95 mm front port diameter for matte boxes. Viltrox publishes one set of figures for all mounts for the aperture range, number of aperture blades, minimum focus distance and field angle. The angle of view is Viltrox’s 39.4 degree diagonal field angle, rounded to the nearest degree. Viltrox gives the minimum focus distance only in imperial units (3 ft 3 in); it is converted to 0.99 m. Filter size is entered as None: Viltrox publishes no filter thread for these lenses, only a front end compatible with a 95 mm matte box, and CineD says the lenses cannot take screw-in filters. Viltrox publishes no maximum magnification, so that field is empty. Weather sealing is not entered: Viltrox lists only a waterproof and anti-fouling coating on the front element, which is a coating, not sealing. The price is the regular price of the 75mm L-mount selection in Viltrox’s US store, read on 25 Oct 2026, with no crossed-out price (the PL-mount selection is $3,299). The product image is Viltrox’s picture of the 75mm lens, with the mount not specified.
