Key Take-Aways:

The Viltrox EPIC 50mm T2.0 Anamorphic is a manual-focus full-frame anamorphic cine prime, the middle lens of the EPIC 35, 50 and 75mm set, sold in E, L, PL and RF mounts. In L-Mount Viltrox lists it at about 2,050 g without lens covers, 165 mm long and 102 mm across, with 18 elements in 12 groups, a T2.0 to T22 aperture range, 8 aperture blades and a 58 degree diagonal field angle, and it costs $3,199 in Viltrox's US store. As of Oct 2026, few reviews have been written; two reviews and two videos are linked. CineD's Johnnie Behiri, pairing the set with a Panasonic LUMIX S5 II, finds the build very solid, focus breathing barely noticeable, the blue flare streaks nicely distributed, the bokeh soft and natural and chromatic aberration well controlled; he finds a little softness at T2 and recommends T2.8 for sharper images, and can only recommend trying the lenses before committing. ProVideo Coalition's Brian Hallett, testing the 50mm on a Sony FX9, made it his go-to lens, finds it practical and easy to use, sharp and pretty at T5.6 with edges that soften wide open, the blue flare soft with a golden secondary flare, the focus and aperture rings smooth, and the 2 ft 7 in minimum focus distance pretty good although a diopter would help; he says it weighs around 4.5 pounds, with the PL-mount option the heaviest, but he did not mind the weight, calls the $3,299 he quotes a steal next to other anamorphics, and gives it 10 out of 10. Alexandru Don, testing the set on an Arri Alexa LF and a Sony FX6, finds the lenses feel super solid and quite heavy, likes that the 95 mm front takes a matte box without adapters, finds the image so sharp yet so cinematic with really good-looking bokeh, says they are a perfect match for his work and that he personally likes them a lot, and thinks they looked much better by day than at night. Jason Morris finds all three lenses sharp in the centre and fairly sharp in the corners wide open, with practically no focus breathing and oval bokeh even with this modest squeeze, a clamp-friendly 95 mm front, and calls them phenomenal but aimed at mid-range and high-end filmmakers, at the $2,800 he quotes.

>
> EPIC series lenses effectively reduce the angle of view change when focusing, and the breathing effect is barely noticeable when the focus is adjusted.
>
> Sharing same character, gear position design and center of gravity, unnecessary to adjust the lens repeatedly.
>
> Special protective case for Epic series lenses, strong and resistant to pressure. It is easy to carry when going out to shoot, and can better protect the lens.

Specifications are from the spec table on Viltrox's page for the EPIC 25 to 135mm set, which has one column per focal length; the 50mm column is used. Viltrox publishes L-Mount figures for this lens: weight of about 2,050 g excluding the front and rear lens covers, and a length of 165 mm. The diameter is Viltrox's φ102 mm lens diameter, the only diameter Viltrox publishes for the body; Viltrox also lists a 95 mm front port diameter for matte boxes. Viltrox publishes one set of figures for all mounts for the aperture range, number of aperture blades, minimum focus distance and field angle. The angle of view is Viltrox's 57.8 degree diagonal field angle, rounded to the nearest degree. Viltrox gives the minimum focus distance only in imperial units (2 ft 7 in); it is converted to 0.79 m. Filter size is entered as None: Viltrox publishes no filter thread for these lenses, only a front end compatible with a 95 mm matte box, and CineD says the lenses cannot take screw-in filters. Viltrox publishes no maximum magnification, so that field is empty. Weather sealing is not entered: Viltrox lists only a waterproof and anti-fouling coating on the front element, which is a coating, not sealing. The price is the regular price of the 50mm L-mount selection in Viltrox's US store, read on 25 Oct 2026, with no crossed-out price (the PL-mount selection is $3,299). The product image is Viltrox's picture of the 50mm lens, with the mount not specified.
