Description and Reviews

Key Take-Aways:

The Sirui Astra 50mm T1.8 Anamorphic is an autofocus full-frame anamorphic cine prime, the shortest of Sirui’s Astra set of 50, 75 and 100mm lenses, sold in L, E and Z mounts with a blue or a neutral flare option. In L-Mount it weighs 625 g without lens cap, is 129 mm long and 80 mm across at the widest, with a 67 mm filter thread, a 0.5 m minimum focus distance, 11 aperture blades and a T1.8 to T22 aperture range; Sirui lists it as dustproof, dirt-resistant and raindrop-resistant. Sirui’s US store lists the single lens in L-Mount at $849. As of Oct 2026, few reviews have been written and thirteen videos are linked. Dustin Abbott, testing the E-mount version, says he has nothing to complain about on autofocus, finds the sharpness and detail very good, sees chromatic aberration only slightly wide open, and is impressed by how much less optical flaw it shows than Sirui’s earlier Super 35 lenses. Thomas Fransson finds the autofocus very usable and stable on a Sony a7S III with the latest firmware, with a few hesitations in low light, prefers barrel to its pincushion distortion, and recommends the 50mm as the first lens to buy from the set. Benj Haisch, filming on a Lumix S9, finds the lens very sharp but sees some autofocus hunting, and says its look is clean and modern rather than strongly anamorphic. David Zhou finds it pretty sharp at T1.8 in the center with soft corners, notes pincushion distortion and more focus breathing than on the 100mm, and calls the autofocus about 90% of the way there. FilmedByFresh, on a Sony FX6, says the autofocus kept up with his children running and the corners are soft, and calls it one of the best entry points into anamorphic. Nakean Wickliff, comparing it with the Blazar Talon 50mm on a Sony A1 II, saw the autofocus make the background pulse and found that unusable. David Zhou, comparing it with the Blazar Talon 50mm on a Sony FX3, finds the Astra’s chromatic aberration well controlled like a clean photo lens, sees noticeable pincushion distortion at the frame edge, finds its autofocus a tad faster than the Blazar’s, and notes that it focuses closer, to half a meter. Camera Fusion says the autofocus hunted constantly on a Leica SL3 and that everything changed on a Lumix S1 II.

From Sirui:

Most mirrorless cameras shoot in 16:9. With a 1.33x squeeze rratio, this lens directly restores the classic 2.4:1 widescreen cinematic look-no cropping, no pixel loss, delivering a high-resolution! Immersive image.

Fast, precise, and smooth autofocus system – Provides stable and fluid focusing for both dynamic video shooting and portrait creation.

Use this T1.8 fast aperture lens to capture images featuring clear subject, soft bokeh and shallow depth of field.

Three focal lengths with similar sizes, and a weight of only about 600g-700g, making them portable and easy to switch quickly.

Two classic flares highlight the lens’ signature anamorphic character, revealing a distinctive cinematic.

Uniform color and tone across three focal lengths, enabling fast swapping and easier post-production.

Aspherical lens helps to reduce lens size and also show outstanding optical performance with sharpness and well-controlled distortion.

Dustproof, Dirt-Resistant, Raindrop-Resistant

67mm filter thread and 72mm outer diameter, compatible with commonly used filters.

Specifications are from the spec table on Sirui’s page for the Astra set, which has one column per focal length and gives weight and length per mount; the L-Mount figures are used (weight excludes the lens cap; length is 128.9 mm rounded to 129 mm). Sirui publishes one set of figures for all mounts for the filter thread, minimum focus distance, aperture range and maximum magnification. Diameter is the 80 mm maximum diameter that Sirui gives for the E and L mount versions (the focus ring; the outer diameter is 72 mm). Maximum magnification is the larger, vertical figure (1:7.2, entered as 0.139; the horizontal figure is 1:10.2). The angle of view is Sirui’s 60.9 degree diagonal figure, rounded to 61. Weather sealing is entered because Sirui’s page lists dustproof, dirt-resistant and raindrop-resistant protection. The price is the single-lens L-Mount price in Sirui’s US store, with no crossed-out price; an archived copy of the page from 17 Dec 2025 shows the same $849, and the page also sells the three lenses as a $2,549 set. The page sells the lens with a blue or a neutral flare at the same price. The product image is Sirui’s picture of the 50mm lens, with the mount not specified.
