Description and Reviews
Key Take-Aways:
The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is a discontinued ultra-wide prime from Sigma’s 2015 Art line. Sigma’s page lists the L-Mount version at 755 g and 85.4 mm across, with a length of 114 mm (Sigma gives 114.2), a 77 mm filter thread, an 84 degree angle of view (Sigma gives 84.1), a 0.25 m minimum focus distance and 15 elements in 11 groups, and Sigma’s US store prices the L-Mount selection at $939. Sigma makes no sealing claim. As of Oct 2026, seven written reviews and seventeen videos are linked. Digital Camera World’s Matthew Richards called it beautifully built with exceptional image quality at a much lower price than camera-maker equivalents, and listed no weather-seals and autofocus that is not smooth for video as drawbacks. PhotoZone’s Klaus Schroiff, testing on a 50-megapixel Canon EOS 5DS R, found the centre nice at f/1.4 but the borders plain soft, with full potential from f/2.8 and peak performance around f/4, low lateral chromatic aberration, slight barrel distortion, extreme vignetting wide open and pretty fast and silent autofocus, and he noted the lack of weather sealing. Shutterbug’s Henry Anderson called it an incredibly capable wide-angle lens free from imaging defects or artifacts, worth the $850 price. In Nick Page’s video description he found it mostly pros, sharp with a great look and acceptable astrophotography images, but with focus problems in challenging focusing situations. Tom Buck’s video description calls it one of his favourites after 2.5 years, with a slight front-focusing issue on his copy, and Kamil Pekala’s title calls it excellent in the corners and perfect for astro.
From Sigma:
Sigma expertise and leading-edge manufacturing technologies deliver breathtaking optical performance.
Minimizing the optical aberrations that tend to affect large-diameter lenses makes possible a new horizon of image quality.
This lens features minimized aberration achieved through the latest design technology and know-how that has been accumulated by Sigma in its lens development over many years and offers astonishing rendering performance, even at the edges, with ultra-high resolution. Whilst featuring higher resolution around the focus point, the lens offers a smooth and natural bokeh effect. Both high definition rendering without chromatic aberration and natural bokeh expression are possible, even at maximum aperture.
Leveraging our optical expertise, we have minimized sagittal coma flare for optimal capture of starry nightscapes.
Sagittal coma flare is the aberration in which a point light source appears as a streak instead of a point, and it affects large-diameter lenses in particular. By positioning aspherical lens elements toward the rear of the 24mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, we have adjusted the angle of incidence of light for optimal power distribution. Even at wide-open aperture, you will enjoy outstanding image quality. Since streaking of point light sources toward the edges of the image is minimized, this lens is a powerful ally in photographing celestial bodies, nighttime illumination, and more.
Sigma has discontinued this lens. It is the predecessor of sigma-24mm-f1-4 (the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art): the DG HSM is a DSLR design that Sigma also offered in L-Mount, which is why it is large and heavy. Specifications are the L-Mount figures from Sigma’s page (the English page gives the angle of view as 84.1 degrees, entered as 84, and the length as 114.2 mm, entered as 114). The price is the L-Mount selection on Sigma’s US store (Sigma America). Dustin Abbott’s written review and videos cover the Sony FE version of the same lens.
