Description and Reviews

Key Take-Aways:

The Laowa FF Ranger 75-180mm T2.9 is a manual-focus full-frame cine telezoom with a constant T2.9 aperture, a 32 to 14 degree field of view and an 89 cm close focus. It weighs 1,339 g and costs $2,999 in the standard version. As of Oct 2026, three written reviews and eleven videos are linked. Newsshooter finds it sharp at 75 mm but a little soft at 180 mm and T2.9, improving a lot by T4, and dislikes its circular rainbow flare, though it calls the focus breathing well controlled for this focal range. CineD finds corner sharpness consistent across the zoom range, a little barrel distortion at 75 mm and chromatic aberration more visible than on the 28-75, and recommends the Rangers for their price and performance. ProVideo Coalition calls the Ranger zooms fully metal but not weather sealed, saw the 75-180 shift focus by about a millimeter while zooming (which Laowa said the back-focus adjustment can fix), and found some mild cat-eye at the frame edge.

From Laowa:

Laowa is thrilled to unveil the Ranger Compact Cine Zoom Series for the full frame market. The lens set comes in FF Ranger 16-30mm T2.9, FF Ranger 28-75mm T2.9 and FF Ranger 75-180mm T2.9 lenses, designed to meet the demands of both one-man-band filmmakers and production houses, offering exceptional features and unrivaled performances to create a cinematic story.

With the additional 16-30mm, the Ranger series boasts a long versatile zoom range with more than 11x zoom ratio in total.

The incredibly lightweight allows filmmakers to capture breathtaking shots at both ends of the spectrum effortlessly. Filmmakers can experience the convenience of the parfocal design, and can also enjoy focus transition with almost no focus breathing. The extremely close focus distance also allows for captivating close-up shots. Crafted with professional cine housing, these lenses provide a smooth and reliable shooting experience.

Official Website

This is the standard version of the Ranger; Laowa also sells a Lite version that is about 10% lighter and costs $3,499. Laowa publishes one set of figures for all mounts and does not list L-mount-specific ones, so the weight (1339 g) and dimensions (ร˜84.8 mm ร— 189.5 mm) are as published; the lens ships in PL mount by default, with an interchangeable L-mount bayonet available as an extra.
