Key Take-Aways:

The S9 is a full-frame L-Mount mirrorless camera that Panasonic describes as a stylish companion for content creators on the go, offered in four colorways. Three reviews (TechRadar, Digital Camera World, The Phoblographer) praise the in-camera Real Time LUTs and the price and fault the missing viewfinder, and two (TechRadar, Digital Camera World) fault the handling of lenses on the small body.

From Panasonic:

> Panasonic is proud to announce the LUMIX S9, the smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera in the LUMIX S Series. Available in four colorways–Jet Black, Crimson Red, Dark Olive and Night Blue–the LUMIX S9 is a stylish companion for content creators on-the-go and easily elevates social media content. With the introduction of the LUMIX S9 to its line-up of cameras, Panasonic aims to bring a new enjoyable shooting experience for creators, making the journey from capturing moments to sharing them with the world seamless and intuitive.

Panasonic's consumer product pages block automated reads, so the maker page above is Panasonic USA's launch press release of 22 May 2024; the quote is its opening paragraph, unchanged. The specs come from that release and from [Panasonic Japan's DC-S9 spec table](https://panasonic.jp/dc/products/DC-S9/spec.html), its [recording-mode list](https://panasonic.jp/content/dam/panasonic/jp/ja/pim-assets/support/specification/000/000/004/685/819/000000004685819/DC-S9_%E5%8B%95%E7%94%BB%E8%A8%98%E9%8C%B2%E3%83%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89%E4%B8%80%E8%A6%A7.pdf) and its [product page](https://panasonic.jp/dc/products/DC-S9.html).

Weight of 486 g is Panasonic Japan's figure with battery and SD card (質量 約486g), the same figure the release gives; the body alone is 403 g. The dimensions are its 126 x 73.9 x 46.7 mm, rounded. The price of USD 1,499.99 (rounded to 1500) is the US price in Panasonic USA's release, which names no lens and gives late June 2024 for availability; DPReview's spec page was not readable, and The Phoblographer's review also gives $1,499. Announced on 22 May 2024, hence 2024 as the year.

The sensor is 24.2 MP effective. The release gives Body I.S. of 5 stops (CIPA, with the S-R2060), so ibis is true. The Japanese table has no viewfinder (ファインダー 方式 －), so evf is false and there is no viewfinder resolution. The S9 has no mechanical shutter: the table lists no mechanical-shutter burst (連写 メカシャッター －), so mechanical_shutter is false and no mechanical burst rate is given. The electronic shutter bursts at 30 fps (SH30), and the table also lists an SH30 PRE mode with pre-capture, so pre_burst is true. The lowest standard ISO is 100 (ISO 50 is an extended setting). The accessory shoe is listed as a cold shoe (コールドシュー) and external flashes are not supported, so hot_shoe is false; The Phoblographer notes the lack of a dedicated hot shoe and Cameralabs notes the shoe has no electrical contacts. The recording-mode list has 6K 3:2 video of 5952x3968 at 29.97p across the full sensor width, so open gate is 6K. Its highest frame rate is FHD 119.88p (MOV, and MP4 Lite from firmware 2.1), so slow_mo is FHD 120p; the list gives no separate Slow & Quick figure. The table's weather entry (防塵防滴仕様) is a dash and The Phoblographer quotes Panasonic saying the body has no weather resistance, so weather_sealed is false. There is one SD slot, UHS-I and UHS-II supported, so card_slot_1 is SD UHS-II and there is no second slot; no internal storage is listed, so internal_storage is 0. Panasonic names the DC-S9 in the model list of its [LUMIX Webcam Software](https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/soft/download/lumix_webcam.html) page, so webcam is true (Cameralabs notes it needs a driver rather than plain USB video class). The battery is the DMW-BLK22 named in the Japanese table and its accessory list. Battery life of 470 is Panasonic's CIPA figure for the kit with the S-R2060 20-60 mm lens and an SDXC card (430 with the S-R28200, 450 with the S-R1840). The SKU is left out because no US body-only SKU is published on a page reachable for automated reads.

Current: Panasonic Japan's product page still lists the S9 with no production-ended marking and no discontinuation report was found as of 2026-11-05; a titanium colourway and firmware updates were announced in 2025, so there is no discontinuation year.

Reviews and videos were a full pass because the body is current. DPReview's in-depth review (Mitchell Clark and Dale Baskin, 85%) is listed first but could not be read, so it is not used for the Key Take-Aways. Cameralabs tested a pre-production unit and is not listed. The launch-day reviews (TechRadar, Digital Camera World; 22 May 2024) are kept because none states a pre-production unit (TechRadar describes a one-week review period); The Phoblographer borrowed its unit from Panasonic and has updated its review for firmware since. Photography Blog's launch-day page is an interim review with no conclusion, so it is not listed. Points counted for the Key Take-Aways: TechRadar praises the video features, stabilisation, Real Time LUTs and price, and faults the missing viewfinder and hot shoe, the unbalanced feel with L-mount lenses and the limited video record times; Digital Camera World praises the compact size, built-in LUTs, hybrid and crop zoom and price, and faults the missing viewfinder, the unbalanced feel with lenses and the minimal grip; The Phoblographer praises the handling, street-photography autofocus, simple menu and JPEGs from Real Time LUTs (and the price in its verdict), and faults the missing weather resistance, viewfinder and joystick and a shoe that cannot be used for flash. Videos from channels that carry a paid-promotion notice or whose descriptions point to Panasonic's LUMIX Creators site are not listed. Product image: Panasonic.
