Panasonic Lumix S1IIE

Description and Reviews

Key Take-Aways:

The S1IIE is a full-frame L-Mount mirrorless camera from Panasonic that keeps the design and ergonomics of the S1II and S1RII, with a sensor inspired by the LUMIX S5II and a new Cinemascope (2.4:1) video format. Two reviews (Digital Camera World, Photography Blog) praise the build quality, the autofocus and the video features, one review (Digital Camera World) also praises the stabilisation and faults the 30 fps burst, the less exotic video frame rates and the rolling shutter against the S1II, and one review (Photography Blog) says the model is arguably one too many in Panasonic’s full-frame line-up.

From Panasonic:

The LUMIX S1IIE, forming another part of the second-generation S1 series, maintains the celebrated design and ergonomic excellence of the S1II and S1RII, offering potential for creative exploration. It is equipped with a 24.2MP sensor inspired by the characteristics of the LUMIX S5II, thus ensuring exceptional image quality tailored for diverse shooting conditions. It includes standout features from the S1II, positioning itself as a comprehensive tool for creative projects. Notably, the LUMIX S1IIE introduces a new Cinemascope video format (2.4:1) available in various frame rates including 60p without cropping.

Official Website

Panasonic’s consumer product pages block automated reads and Panasonic’s US newsroom carries no S1IIE release, so the maker page above is Panasonic Canada’s launch press release of 13 May 2025 (“Panasonic Announces Two New Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras: LUMIX S1II and LUMIX S1IIE”). The quote is the release’s paragraph about the S1IIE, word for word. The specs come from that release and from Panasonic Japan’s DC-S1M2ES spec table, its recording-mode list and its product page.

Weight of 795 g is Panasonic Japan’s figure with battery and one SD card (質量 約795g, shoe cover fitted, no body cap). The dimensions are its 134.3 x 102.3 x 91.8 mm, rounded. Panasonic’s release gives no USD price and no reachable Panasonic page lists one. The price is the launch price of $2,499 body-only, as reported in Photography Blog’s launch-day review (13 May 2025: “available in June 2025 priced at … $2,499 body-only”), and DPReview’s review in progress gives the same “recommended price of $2499” (as given, that page was not read here); Digital Camera World’s later listing of $2,498 is a street price and is not used. The entry uses 2499. Announced on 13 May 2025 and on sale from late June 2025, hence 2025 as the year.

The sensor is 24.2 MP effective (約2,420万画素). The Japanese table gives 8.0 stops of Body I.S. (centre, CIPA, with the S-R2060), so ibis is true; the table lists dust- and splash-resistance (防塵防滴仕様 marked as present), so weather_sealed is true. The viewfinder is a 5.76 million-dot OLED (約576万ドット, 0.78x per the table). The table lists a focal-plane shutter (フォーカルプレーンシャッター) with stills speeds of 60 to 1/8,000 s mechanical and 60 to 1/8,000 s electronic (video to 1/16,000 s), so mechanical_shutter is true. The lowest standard ISO is 100 (ISO 50 is an extended setting). The table gives 10 fps with the mechanical shutter in speed-priority mode (AFS/MF; 8 fps with AFC; 7 fps in quality-priority mode) and 30 fps with the electronic shutter (SH), and it lists an SH PRE mode with pre-capture, so pre_burst is true. The recording-mode list has 6K 3:2 video of 5952x3968 at 29.97p, the largest full-sensor 3:2 mode it lists (the 5.9K 16:9 mode is smaller), so open gate is 6K. The list tops out at 119.88p, reached by Full HD only (4K and C4K reach 59.94p), so slow_mo is FHD 120p under the schema rule. The hot shoe is inferred from the hot shoe cover (ホットシューカバー) in the table’s accessory list and the shoe cover in the weight note. The table lists CFexpress Type B for slot 1 and SD (UHS-I / UHS-II) for slot 2, and no internal storage, so internal_storage is 0. The table’s USB entry lists UVC support (UVC:対応), so webcam is true; Panasonic’s LUMIX Webcam Software page was not checked. The battery is the DMW-BLK22 named in the Japanese table’s CIPA entries (Digital Camera World’s spec list names a DMW-BLJ31 and 380 shots, which is not used). Battery life is the CIPA figure of about 370 shots with the rear monitor and a CFexpress card (330 with the viewfinder; 380 monitor and SD card) with the S-R24105 lens. The SKU is left out because no US body-only SKU is published on a page reachable for automated reads. Panasonic’s operating range is -10 to 40 degrees C.

Current: Panasonic Japan’s product page still lists the S1IIE with no production-ended marking and no discontinuation report was found as of 2026-11-05, so there is no discontinuation year.

Reviews and videos were a full pass because the body is current. DPReview has only a review in progress (Mitchell Clark, published 13 May 2025); it is DPReview’s long-form format, is listed first and was not read, so it is not used for the Key Take-Aways. Photography Blog’s review (Mark Goldstein) is dated 13 May 2025, the launch day; it states no pre-production, pre-release or early-sample unit and no later update date, so it is listed. Digital Camera World’s review (Matthew Richards, 9 Sep 2025, no later update date) states no pre-production unit and mentions firmware V1.1. Cameralabs, TechRadar, Space.com, Tom’s Guide, The Phoblographer and Camera Jabber had no S1IIE review that could be found. Points counted for the Key Take-Aways: Digital Camera World’s pros are the AF and IBIS, the handling, the stills and video specs and the build quality (its verdict adds the image quality and a 20 per cent lower price than the S1II), and its cons are the missing partially stacked sensor, the “only” 30 fps burst, the less exotic video frame rates and more rolling shutter; Photography Blog has no pro/con lists, its conclusion credits the shared S1II design and build quality, the improved AF, the better viewfinder and the more advanced video, calls it a more sensible all-rounder for those who do not need the S1II’s speed, and says it is “perhaps a model too far” in the line-up and not a significant jump up from the S5II. Videos from 13 to 15 May 2025 (launch week), first impressions, videos with a paid-promotion notice or a sponsor segment, and videos with a Lumix Creators tie are not listed. None of the five video descriptions names a loan of this camera; Luca Bono says he is not sponsored (his standard text mentions sometimes keeping products free of charge), and several of the channels carry affiliate links.
