Description and Reviews
Key Take-Aways:
The S1II is a full-frame L-Mount mirrorless camera that Panasonic crafted for professional photographers and videographers, built around a newly developed partially stacked sensor. Four reviews (Cameralabs, Digital Camera World, TechRadar, Photography Blog) praise the video modes and the burst speed, and two (Digital Camera World, TechRadar) praise the stabilisation, while two (Digital Camera World, TechRadar) fault the price and two (the same two) say the autofocus still trails the best rivals slightly.
From Panasonic:
The LUMIX S1II is meticulously crafted for professional photographers and videographers. It features a newly developed 24.1MP full-frame partially stacked CMOS image sensor and is powered by an advanced-generation Venus Engine. This synergy allows for faster readout speeds and processing, facilitating high frame rate recording in formats such as 4K120p and 5.8K 60p. Furthermore, it excels with dynamic range with the Dynamic Range Boost mode, achieving up to 15 stops in V-Log at frame rates below 30p. On the photography side, high-speed continuous shooting of up to 70 frames per second with SH / SH pre-burst shooting up to 1.5 seconds ensures the capture of fleeting moments.
Panasonic’s consumer product pages block automated reads and Panasonic’s US newsroom carries no S1II release, so the maker page above is Panasonic Canada’s launch press release of 13 May 2025 (“Panasonic Announces Two New Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras: LUMIX S1II and LUMIX S1IIE”). The quote is the release’s first paragraph about the S1II with the three footnote markers (*1, *2, *3) removed; the wording is otherwise unchanged. The specs come from that release and from Panasonic Japan’s DC-S1M2 spec table, its recording-mode list and its product page.
Weight of 800 g is Panasonic Japan’s figure with battery and one SD card (θ³ͺι η΄800g, shoe cover fitted, no body cap). The dimensions are its 134.3 x 102.3 x 91.8 mm, rounded. Panasonic’s release gives no USD price and no reachable Panasonic page lists one, and DPReview’s spec page could not be read here, so the price is taken from two dated launch reports: Pronews (14 May 2025) gives “The suggested retail price is $3,199.99” with release in mid-June 2025, and Imaging Resource (13 May 2025) lists a pre-order price of $3,197 for the body only at B&H, shipping in late June. The entry uses USD 3,199.99 rounded to 3200, body only. Announced on 13 May 2025 and on sale from June 2025, hence 2025 as the year.
The sensor is 24.1 MP effective (η΄2,410δΈη»η΄ ). The Japanese table gives 8.0 stops of Body I.S. (centre, CIPA, with the S-R2060), so ibis is true; the table lists dust- and splash-resistance (ι²ε‘΅ι²ζ»΄δ»ζ§ marked as present), so weather_sealed is true. The viewfinder is a 5.76 million-dot OLED (η΄576δΈγγγ, 0.78x per the table). The mechanical shutter runs to 1/8,000 s and the electronic shutter to 1/16,000 s. The lowest standard ISO is 100 (ISO 50 is an extended setting). The table gives 10 fps with the mechanical shutter in speed-priority mode (AFS/MF; 8 fps in quality-priority mode, 8 fps with AFC in speed priority) and 70 fps with the electronic shutter (SH, speed priority; 60 and 30 fps in quality-priority modes), and it lists an SH PRE mode with pre-capture, so pre_burst is true. The recording-mode list has 6K 3:2 video of 5952x3968 at 29.97p, which is the largest full-sensor 3:2 open-gate mode Panasonic lists (5.1K 3:2 at up to 59.94p is the other), so open gate is 6K; the list does not say which firmware version it matches, and the release names 6K30p and 5.1K60p as the launch open-gate formats. The list tops out at 239.76p, reached by Full HD (4K and C4K reach 119.88p), so slow_mo is FHD 240p under the schema rule, although the release names 4K120p. The hot shoe is inferred from the hot shoe cover (γγγγ·γ₯γΌγ«γγΌ) in the table’s accessory list and the shoe cover in the weight note. The table lists CFexpress Type B for slot 1 and SD (UHS-I / UHS-II) for slot 2, and no internal storage, so internal_storage is 0. The table’s USB entry lists UVC support (UVCοΌε―ΎεΏ), so webcam is true; Panasonic’s LUMIX Webcam Software page was not checked. The battery is the DMW-BLK22 named in the Japanese table’s CIPA entries. Battery life is the CIPA-based figure of about 350 shots with the rear monitor and a CFexpress card (310 with the viewfinder; 360 monitor and SD card) with the S-R24105 lens; Digital Camera World’s spec list gives a different battery model and 370 shots, which is not used. The SKU is left out because no US body-only SKU is published on a page reachable for automated reads. Panasonic’s operating range is -10 to 40 degrees C.
Current: Panasonic Japan’s product page still lists the S1II with no production-ended marking and no discontinuation report was found as of 2026-11-05, so there is no discontinuation year.
Reviews and videos were a full pass because the body is current. DPReview’s review (Mitchell Clark and Richard Butler, 91%, Silver) is listed first but could not be read, so it is not used for the Key Take-Aways. CineD’s May 2025 piece is a first impression and is not listed. Cameralabs’ review (Gordon Laing) is dated 13 May 2025, the launch day, and mentions a press event; it states no pre-production, pre-release or early-sample unit, so it is listed, and the page was modified again in Sep 2026 without my identifying what changed. Digital Camera World’s review (Gareth Bevan, 4 Jul 2025) and TechRadar’s review (Timothy Coleman, 4 Jul 2025; the page says “First reviewed June 2025” and that Panasonic loaned the camera for one month) state no pre-production unit. Photography Blog’s review (Mark Goldstein) shows the date 19 Jan 2026 and states no pre-production unit; an earlier publication date could not be found. Points counted for the Key Take-Aways: Cameralabs praises the video modes (uncropped 4K, 6K open gate), the 70 fps bursts with reduced skewing and the autofocus, and faults the quickly filling buffer and missing slower electronic bursts with pre-burst; Digital Camera World praises the 70 fps bursts and readout, the autofocus, the video (6K open gate, 4K 120p), the stabilisation, the image quality and the weather-sealed build, and faults the price, autofocus tracking a little behind the best rivals and 70 fps as overkill for most; TechRadar praises the video modes, the stabilisation, the fast bursts and autofocus, the long record times and the build, and faults the price, the battery life, the autofocus being not quite as complete as rivals and that photography-first users may be better served elsewhere; Photography Blog praises the burst speed, the video modes, the build and the smaller body, and faults the removed top screen and notes battery life slightly below the original S1. Videos with a paid-promotion notice, a Lumix Creators tie, launch-day videos and first looks are not listed. Pav SZ’s video states the camera was provided on long-term loan (lender not named); Ed Prosser, Cesar Lorca, Remy Leonard, Jonathan Palfrey and Anson & Co. state no loan in their descriptions, and several of the channels carry affiliate links.
