Panasonic Lumix S1H

Description and Reviews

Key Take-Aways:

The S1H is Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless camera that Panasonic presents as delivering cinema-quality video with unlimited recording time. Three reviews (TechRadar, Digital Camera World, Newsshooter) praise the image stabilisation, two (TechRadar, Digital Camera World) praise the 6K video and two (TechRadar, Digital Camera World) fault the large, heavy body, while all three reviews fault the autofocus, and one review (Digital Camera World) finds the battery life modest.

From Panasonic:

Cinematic Performance, Boundless Creativity. V-Log/V-Gamut with 14+ stops of dynamic range, 3:2 6K/24p full-frame capture, 10-bit Cinema 4K/4K 60p/50p recording, and unlimited recording time. The LUMIX S1H is the new full-frame mirrorless camera that delivers cinema-quality video.

Official Website

Panasonic’s consumer product pages block automated reads, so the maker page above is Panasonic’s own pro-AV product page; the specs come from it, from Panasonic USA’s DC-S1H specification page and from Panasonic Japan’s DC-S1H spec table.

Weight of 1,164 g is with battery and one SD card (Panasonic’s pro-AV page and USA page; the Japanese spec table agrees). The price of USD 3,999 is the reported US launch price for the body only, as DPReview’s specification page lists it and Newsshooter’s launch report of 28 Aug 2019 states (retail $3,999 USD); TechRadar’s review gives the same US price. No Panasonic page reachable for automated reads gives a price. Announced in Aug 2019; Newsshooter reported shipping from 19 Sep 2019 and Wikipedia gives 25 Sep 2019 as the release date.

Panasonic’s specification table gives 6K video of 5952x3968 at 24p in 3:2 across the full sensor width (the “FULL” recording range), so open gate is 6K, native and without a paid key. Panasonic’s pro-AV page gives 7.5x super-slow (24p from 180 fps) in Full HD, hence FHD 180p. The viewfinder is a 5,760k-dot OLED, and the lowest standard ISO is 100 (Dual Native ISO with base sensitivities 100 and 640; ISO 50 is an extended setting). Panasonic gives 9 fps for both mechanical and electronic shutter with single AF (AFS) and 6 fps and 5 fps with continuous AF (AFC); the table uses the AFS figure. Pre-burst is left out because neither Panasonic Japan’s spec table nor Panasonic USA’s specification page names a pre-capture burst mode for the S1H (the owner’s manual was not reachable for automated reads; reviews describe a 6K/4K PHOTO Pre-Burst mode but are not the basis). The hot shoe is listed as the Hot Shoe Cover in the accessories. Panasonic lists only memory cards as recording media, so internal storage is 0; both slots take SD cards up to UHS-II (Video Speed Class 90). Weather sealing is Panasonic’s dust- and splash-resistant claim for the body. Panasonic names the DC-S1H among the cameras supported by its LUMIX Webcam Software. The battery is the DMW-BLJ31 that Panasonic Japan’s product page lists among the accessories; the spec table gives its 7.4 V, 3050 mAh ratings. Panasonic publishes no still-shot battery figure for the S1H (only recording times), so battery life is left out, as is the SKU because no US body-only SKU is published on a page reachable for automated reads.

Discontinued: Panasonic has published no end-of-production notice and its own pages still list the S1H with no production-ended marking, but Backscatter’s product page says the product has been discontinued and is no longer in stock, and The New Camera, Sep 2025 calls the S1H out of production; neither gives a year, so the year is unknown.

Reviews and videos were a light pass because the body is discontinued. DPReview published a full review, listed first under Reviews; it could not be read, so it is not used for the Key Take-Aways, which draw on the three other reviews. TechRadar’s review was published in Feb 2020, the date below, and its page was last updated in Aug 2022; Digital Camera World credits two authors. Imaging Resource’s page is a launch preview and Cameralabs’ page is a work-in-progress review, so neither is used. Product image: Panasonic press render from DPReview’s product page.
