Key Take-Aways:

The Leica TL2 is the 2017 successor to the TL, a compact APS-C body machined from a single block of aluminium, with no built-in viewfinder. Both reviews linked praise the touchscreen and the build and finish, and both fault the missing built-in viewfinder; one review also faults the high price, the poor battery life and the lack of image stabilisation, and the other the dropped pop-up flash and the few physical controls.

From Leica:

> Based on the Leica TL-System, which has been continuously advanced in terms of speed, ease of handling and flexibility since its market launch, the new Leica TL2 embraces all the perfected features and leads the innovative camera concept into a new generation with additional innovations and new design aspects. The particular hallmark of the Leica TL2 is the unusual design of its compact body. Each camera body is precisely machined from a single block of aluminium in the Leica factory. The use of premium materials and their engineering in an elaborate manufacturing process are unique in the history of camera construction and lend the Leica TL2 an unmistakeable look, feel and solidity.

The maker page is Leica's press release of 10 July 2017 presenting the TL2, the quote above is its opening paragraph, and Leica no longer has a product page for this body. The specs come from the technical data in Leica's [press information for the Leica TL2](https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/downloads/142090/Press%20Information_Leica%20TL2.pdf), which says the camera is offered in silver and black from the start. The weight of 399 g is with battery, from that data ("Approx. 399 g/355 g (with/without battery)") and confirmed by [DPReview's specifications page](https://www.dpreview.com/products/leica/slrs/leica_tl2/specifications), which lists 399 g including battery; neither gives a figure with a memory card fitted. Leica gives 24.24 million effective pixels, which DPReview rounds to 24.2. Leica publishes no US dollar price in the press release: the launch price of $1,950 (body only) is DPReview's listed US launch MSRP. The body is discontinued: Leica issued a statement in May 2022 on the phasing out of the CL and TL2 system, which was reported by [Macfilos on 20 May 2022](https://www.macfilos.com/2022/05/20/leica-acknowledges-the-end-of-aps-c-cameras-its-now-full-frame-ahead-for-wetzlar/) and, quoting Leica's statement, by [Leica Rumors on 17 May 2022](https://leicarumors.com/2022/05/17/it-seems-that-the-leica-cl-tl-systems-are-now-officially-discontinued.aspx/), so the year is 2022. The data gives ISO 100 to 50000 (so base ISO 100), about 7 fps continuous shooting with the mechanical shutter (shutter speeds to 1/4000 s) and 20 fps with the electronic shutter (shutter speeds to 1/40000 s), so the body has both shutters; an APS-C CMOS sensor with contrast-based autofocus only; 4K video at 30 fps, full HD at 60 fps and HD at 120 fps (slow motion), so the highest frame rate is HD 120p and there is no open-gate mode; 32 GB of internal memory; one SD/SDHC/SDXC slot that supports UHS-II (no second slot); an ISO flash shoe; and the BP-DC13 battery rated at about 250 pictures by the CIPA standard. Leica's press release names the Leica Visoflex as an optional electronic viewfinder, so there is no built-in viewfinder. The data does not state a pre-capture burst or USB webcam use, and makes no weather-sealing claim, so the first two are left out and weather sealing is false. DPReview has no full review of the TL2, so it is not listed. Product image: Leica Store Miami.
